Injectables and skin care treatments can enhance your natural beauty by reducing the damaging effects of aging. Dr. Steven J. Covici specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries of the eyelids and face. He works with each patient to develop a cosmetic plan that will achieve the desired results. Injectables are a popular choice because they can produce noticeable results without the need for plastic surgery.

Injectable Treatments

Aging naturally decreases volume in the face, causing unwanted lines and wrinkles. Injectables are an amazing solution that restore and refresh natural beauty. This is done by filling out a targeted area to make lines less noticeable. All injectable treatments are administered as a simple outpatient procedure. Recovery times vary, but many patients are able to return to work immediately after treatment.

What Is BOTOX®?

BOTOX® is a neurotoxic protein produced by a bacterium known as Clostridium botulinum. While that sounds a little scary, BOTOX® has been used safely in clinical settings since 1997. BOTOX® stops muscles from working for periods of time by interfering with the transmission of nerve pulses to the muscles. In the clinical setting, BOTOX® is used to treat spastic muscle disorders, migraines, and other conditions. However, it’s most commonly known for its cosmetic use of treating wrinkles and fine lines.

Cosmetic surgeons like Dr. Covici administer BOTOX® injections at designated intervals in specific facial muscles. These injections block signals sent from nerves to the muscles, preventing the muscles from contracting and allowing the wrinkles to relax and soften. The procedure is most commonly performed to treat forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines.

Dysport®

Like BOTOX®, Dysport® is another neurotoxin effective at reducing moderate to severe fine lines and wrinkles by preventing muscles from working. Dysport is used primarily to target the vertical frown lines between eyebrows and on the forehead.

Sculptra®

Sculptra® is a gradual improvement that works by stimulating collagen production. Collagen is a structural protein that decreases with age. It is effective for "smile lines" called nasolabial folds, which are between the nose and mouth. It can also be used for lines on the chin, lines along both sides of the mouth, and to add volume in the temple and cheek area.

RADIESSE®

RADIESSE® is a volumizing filler that also stimulates collagen production. Calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres are suspended in a gel carrier, which helps to fill empty spaces where fat and collagen have depleted with age. Targeted use of volumizers can smooth wrinkles and give the appearance of healthy fullness.

Belotero®

Belotero® uses hyaluronic acid (HA), another naturally occurring component of skin like elastin and collagen, which decreases with aging. Belotero® integrates into the skin tissue and fills in moderate and severe etched-in lines and folds around the nose and mouth. This option is often recommended for relatively stubborn wrinkles and folds.

Restylane®

Restylane® is useful for nasolabial folds and wrinkles, but it can also be used to add volume and lift to the cheeks. Transparent hyaluronic acids in Restylane® products improve fullness, elasticity, and hydration in the skin of treated areas.

JUVÉDERM®

JUVÉDERM® is the top seller among hyaluronic acid fillers, partially because of its versatility. In addition to filling the cheeks and treating lines around the mouth and nose, this injectable is also used for adding fullness to the lips. JUVÉDERM Ultra XC® is their most popular lip filler for those over the age of 21.
