What is Platelet Rich Plasma?

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a term that is used to describe plasma that contains a higher concentration of platelets than normal blood. Plasma, the colorless, fluid part of blood, contains essential components such as the red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. The platelets are crucial to wound healing. When used for skin rejuvenation, PRP releases growth factors that stimulate collagen and elastin.

PRP Applications

PRP is an example of how the body’s natural healing capabilities can be harnessed and used to resolve problems in a safe and accelerated rate. A small amount of your own blood is drawn and centrifuged to separate the platelets. The PRP is then applied to the face and neck immediately after micro-needling is performed. This allows the PRP to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin for optimal healing. The benefit is smoothing of fine lines, wrinkles, and scars.

The high concentration and rapid growth of the platelets increases tissue regeneration and cell proliferation. Growth factors also increase tissue synthesis which speeds up the healing process and delivers the expected results faster.

Convenience

Unlike other surgical procedures that expose patients to pain and take months to produce the desired results, micro-needling with PRP is performed using a topical anesthetic with low-pain that can be completed in about one hour. More importantly, patients usually notice an immediate glow and results can last up to one year. Maintenance treatments are recommended every 6-12 months for continued results.

Cost Effective

Use of Micro-needling with PRP is more affordable than facial plastic surgery procedures. A series of three treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart is recommended and can be purchased individually or in a package of three.

High Degree of Safety

Safety is one of the primary factors that one needs to put into consideration when considering undergoing any facial plastic surgical procedure. Since PRP is of the patient’s blood, the risk of disease transmission and other health complications is very low. The procedure is done by a highly-trained surgeon who prepares for the procedure accordingly and uses the equipment properly.
